Rome to Milan: Italy's Classical Route with Cinque Terre & Lake Como
Duration
8 Days 6 Nights
Next Departure
15 October 2026
Destinations
Rome, Pisa, Florence, Venice, Milan
Eight days is the right amount of time to do Italy properly — not exhaustively, but without the feeling that you skipped something that mattered. This itinerary runs south to north: Rome on arrival, then Pisa and Florence, a day trip into Cinque Terre by train, Venice, and a final stretch through Mestre to Milan via two of Italy's best designer outlets, Lake Como and the Milanese city centre. You arrive in Rome and spend the afternoon at the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon before checking in. Day two takes you north — a four-hour drive to Pisa for the Campo dei Miracoli, then Florence for the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria. Day three stays Florence-based but heads west to La Spezia: the train into Cinque Terre runs through five cliff-edge villages above the Ligurian Sea, each one built in a different register of colour. The Pierotucci leather workshop rounds out the day. Day four is Venice — waterbus to San Marco, the Basilica and the Rialto, with a gondola available independently if you want it. Day five is the shopping day: Fidenza Village then Serravalle Designer Outlet, two of the best outlet destinations in northern Italy, before the hotel in Milan. Day six is Lake Como — the lake that sits at the base of the Alps, ringed by 19th-century villas and a town that operates at a noticeably slower pace than everywhere else on this tour. Milan closes the trip on day seven: the Duomo, the Galleria and La Scala before the airport. Qatar Airways return flights from Kuala Lumpur are included. Halal meals are provided throughout. This tour is for you if you want Italy's main arc covered efficiently, with the key stops given proper time.

Day-by-Day
Qatar Airways lands at Rome Fiumicino and the tour starts immediately. There is no easing in — Rome is the kind of city that makes demands from the first afternoon, and the itinerary works with that. The four main stops are within walking distance of each other in the historic centre; the guide covers the site context at each.
Colosseum (Anfiteatro Flavio) — The Flavian Amphitheatre, completed in 80 AD. At full capacity it held 50,000–80,000 spectators. The exterior and the context are the standard stop; interior entry is not included.
Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi) — Baroque fountain at the junction of three ancient aqueducts, completed in 1762. The coins-in-the-fountain tradition dates to a 1954 film; the fountain itself is far older. Allow 20 minutes.
Piazza Navona — A long oval piazza built on the site of a 1st-century stadium. The Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini sits at the centre. The surrounding cafes are expensive; the piazza itself is free.
Pantheon — A Roman temple completed around 125 AD, converted to a church in 609, and continuously used since. The unreinforced concrete dome — still the world's largest — has a central oculus 8.7 metres wide open to the sky. Entry fee applies and is not included in the tour.
Castel Romano Designer Outlet — An outlet mall south of Rome on the way in from the airport. A shopping stop is included before hotel check-in.
