This eleven-day route runs from Oslo to Helsinki through Norway, Sweden and the length of Finland — arriving in Scandinavia's most architecturally assured capital and finishing in the world's only city where you can sleep in a room designed by Alvar Aalto's contemporaries. The route's logic is deliberate: Oslo and Stockholm for the urban Scandinavian experience, then the overnight cruise across the Baltic to Finland, and from there the drive north into Lapland. Rovaniemi sits on the Arctic Circle. Santa Claus Village aside — which is genuinely worth an afternoon — the reason to be in Rovaniemi in October or December is the Aurora Borealis.
