The drive northeast from London to Cambridge takes about 90 minutes. Cambridge is one of the most architecturally coherent university cities in the world — the medieval colleges, the river Cam and the mathematical precision of the bridges are the thing. A mosque stop is built in. From Cambridge the coach continues north to Leeds.
Cambridge Orientation — The Mathematical Bridge (Queens' College), the Bridge of Sighs (St John's), the Corpus Clock with its gold-plated grasshopper mechanism, St Bene't's Church (the oldest building in Cambridgeshire) and King's College Chapel with its fan-vaulted ceiling. Free time on Sidney Street.
Cambridge mosque stop — Prayer stop included in the orientation route.
Leeds arrival — Dinner at restaurant, check-in and overnight.
A morning in Leeds before the drive north through York and up to Edinburgh. York is a photo stop — a Roman, Viking and medieval city enclosed by 3-kilometre-long city walls, with the Gothic minster visible from outside the walls. Edinburgh is the overnight.
Leeds Orientation — Leeds Town Hall (1858), Millennium Square, Leeds City Museum, Leeds Cathedral and Leeds City Art Gallery. Photo stops.
York — Photo stop at York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe. Free time at Shambles Market — the medieval lane that inspired Diagon Alley. York mosque prayer stop.
Edinburgh arrival — Dinner at restaurant. Check-in and overnight. Edinburgh sits on an extinct volcano; the castle occupies the plug.
Edinburgh's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site — the medieval spine of the Royal Mile running from the Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, with Victoria Street's curved tenements below. Glasgow is 50 minutes west: a different city entirely — industrial, larger, more irreverent — with a university that predates Oxford's current buildings and two Hard Rock Cafés.
Edinburgh Orientation — Edinburgh Castle (exterior), St Giles' Cathedral, the Heart of Midlothian cobblestone mosaic, Victoria Street and Princes Street. Free time.
Glasgow Orientation — Glasgow University (founded 1451) on Gilmorehill, George Square and the City Chambers. Glasgow Central Mosque prayer stop.
Hard Rock Café Edinburgh & Glasgow — Both included in the day's route.
The drive south from Glasgow to Manchester passes through the Lake District — England's largest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017. The stop is at Lake Windermere, the largest natural lake in England, and the village of Bowness-on-Windermere on its eastern shore.
Lake Windermere — England's largest natural lake (17 kilometres long, 67 metres deep), formed by glacial action at the end of the last ice age. Photo stop and free time in Bowness-on-Windermere — the small Victorian lakeside village with independent shops and lakefront views.
Manchester arrival — Dinner at restaurant. Check-in and overnight. Manchester is England's second city by most measures: music, football, industrial heritage.
A day split between Liverpool and Manchester — two cities defined as much by their football clubs and music heritage as their architecture. Liverpool is the morning: the Merseyside waterfront, the Royal Albert Dock and a photo stop at Anfield. Manchester is the afternoon: Old Trafford, the city centre and the Arndale for shopping.
Liverpool Orientation — The Three Graces (the Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building) at the Pier Head, the Beatles Monument, the Titanic Memorial, Royal Albert Dock and Anfield Stadium photo stop.
Manchester Orientation — Old Trafford Stadium photo stop, Manchester Central Library, Manchester Town Hall, Royal Exchange Theatre. Manchester Central Mosque prayer stop.
Arndale Manchester — Free time for shopping at Manchester's central retail complex.
The drive south from Manchester to Cardiff takes about three hours. Cardiff is the Welsh capital — smaller and more manageable than London, with a castle in the city centre and the Principality Stadium (previously the Millennium Stadium) visible from most of the downtown. St Fagans is the destination: Wales's national open-air museum, 5 kilometres west of the city.
South Wales Islamic Centre — Prayer stop on arrival in Cardiff.
St Fagans National Museum of History — More than 40 re-erected historical buildings from across Wales on a 100-acre site, from Iron Age roundhouses to Victorian workers' cottages. Entrance included.
Cardiff Orientation — Cardiff Castle (Roman fort walls, Victorian Gothic apartments), Principality Stadium and Cardiff Bay. Photo stops. Free time on St Mary Street.
Bath is a 90-minute stop on the drive east to London — and it is worth the detour. The city is the only place in Britain to appear on both the UNESCO World Heritage list for its Georgian architecture and for the Roman remains beneath it. The baths themselves are 2,000 years old and still thermally active.
Bath Orientation — The Royal Crescent (1774, 30 identical houses forming a continuous Georgian façade), Royal Victoria Park, The Circus, Pulteney Weir on the River Avon, Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths exterior. Photo stops throughout.
London arrival — Dinner at restaurant. Check-in in London for the final overnight.
A full day in London covering the city's most iconic circuit. The Queen's Walk along the South Bank is the most concentrated stretch of London landmarks in the smallest footprint: Tower Bridge, the Tower of London (exterior), HMS Belfast and City Hall in under two kilometres of walking. The afternoon is for Oxford Street.
Buckingham Palace — The official London residence of the British monarch since 1837. Photo stop at the Victoria Memorial and the palace gates. The Changing of the Guard occurs at 11:00 most days in summer.
Parliament Square — Big Ben (the Elizabeth Tower), the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Bridge. Photo stop.
Queen's Walk — Tower Bridge (1894), the Tower of London (exterior, founded 1066), HMS Belfast (moored Royal Navy cruiser, 1938) and City Hall.
Central London Mosque — Prayer stop in Regent's Park.
Oxford Street — London's main shopping thoroughfare. Free time.
After breakfast, check out and transfer to Heathrow or the relevant London airport for your return flight. The tour ends at the airport.
Note — No dinner is included on the departure day.
